The Ionian Scale
The Ionian scale is the first of seven modes based around the white keys
of the piano, called the church modes.
This major scale starts of on C, followed by D, E,
F, G, A and B.
A lot of contemporary music, pop, rock, etc is based on the Ionian scale as
well as tons of classical music. The chorus in the Freak Kitchen tune "Some kind of
love song" is all Ionian. Most parts of my Mr Libido song
"Train Leaves at 04:00" is also based on it. A very clean, straight
scale which, with the right colouring, can be mighty tasteful.
