The Harmonic Minor Scale
This scale is similar to the Aeolian scale, (the only
tone separating the two is the seventh which in the Harmonic scale is a major one
and in the
Aeolian a minor seventh). The tone E (the fifth) in the Harmonic scale is the tonic in
the Gypsy scale and just as the Gypsy mode this scale has
something "exotic" and "classical" to it. Yngwie Malmsteen use this mode a lot and
itīs hard to be a rock guitar player wanking around in the harmonic mode and avoiding
comparisons to Mr Yngwie. If you wanna be a neo-classical guitar player, well, this
should be a good introduction.
