The Dorian Scale

The Dorian scale is the second scale of the church modes. It starts of with the tonic in D, all the tones being D, E, F G, A, B, C. I use it a lot and many of Freak Kitchen's songs and some of the solo parts are based around it.

The sixth tone (B) in the scale is what often characterizes the Dorian mode and itīs often used in jazz music. I wank around the sixth a lot since I think it creates nice tension. Many musicians tend to experience that specific tone as "wrong", especially heavy metal guitar players it seems, because of the more frequent use of the Aeolian scale in popular music today (the sixth is the only tone that differs the two scales).
